Bell Mobility goes with Cisco’s ASR 5000 Series
November 14, 2011 - 3:00pm Bell Mobility has selected the Cisco ASR 5000 Series Mobile multimedia core platform to deliver 4G and Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile services in its next-generation wireless network. Cisco also announced the general availability of the newest version of Cisco HealthPresence. The Cisco ASR 5000 Series will form the foundation of the packet core for Bell Mobility's LTE network. The technology is purpose-built for the complexities of the mobile network. A key component of Cisco’s ASR 5000 Series is the Cisco Mobility Management Entity (MME). This is critical to the network function of the 4G mobile core network, known as the evolved packet core (EPC). The Cisco MME manages multiple back-end functions, including authentication, paging, mobility with 3GPP, 2G and 3G nodes, roaming and other functions. As well, the Cisco Serving Gateway (SGW) and the Cisco Packet Data Network Gateway (PGW) are two essential elements to Bell's LTE core network. The Cisco SGW provides superior throughput and processing, while the Cisco PGW acts as policy enforcement, manages quality of service (QoS). General availability of the newest version of Cisco HealthPresence Cisco has also announced the general availability of the newest version of Cisco HealthPresence technology, a care-at-a-distance platform that connects patients and clinicians via high-definition video, audio, medical devices and collaboration tools. The updated solution provides new deployment options with enhanced security and efficiency capabilities to deliver patient care from a wider range of locations. It also supports integrated workflow features to improve information exchange by increasing access to data such as electronic medical records. Cisco HealthPresence works with medical diagnostic equipment, such as stethoscopes and otoscopes, to capture patient information, while also allowing patients to interactively discuss their conditions with their physicians remotely using high-definition video and rich audio. In addition to connecting care teams and patients in rural communities, Cisco HealthPresence is also being utilized in urban environments to help doctors see more patients within a given session and facilitate training and information exchange between healthcare providers around the world. The introduction of a new Cisco HealthPresence solution follows the recent launch of the Cisco TelePresence VX Clinical Assistant, a telemedicine cart that allows for remote patient consultations, virtual care, education and collaboration. Cisco HealthPresence collaboration and clinical workflow features include: electronic medical record (EMR) API with popular EMR systems; chat collaboration tool for communication with remote experts; ePen integration for the simplified writing of electronic prescriptions; appointment queuing for patient prioritization and appointment management.
