Juniper Networks has announced it is expanding its partnership with Samsung; it also has a new deal with Russia’s TransTeleCom.

As a result of the Samsung partnership, enterprise customers of Samsung high-end smart mobile devices (starting with GALAXY Note, GALAXY SII and GALAXY Tab 10.1) will now receive “comprehensive mobile security, secure connectivity and device management capabilities”.

The strategic partnership builds on existing efforts to provide Juniper Networks’ Junos Pulse and Junos Pulse Mobile Security Suite on select Samsung mobile devices “enabling reliable, secure mobile remote access (via SSL VPN), application and threat protection, and mobile device management and control”.

Junos Pulse provides full Layer 3 SSL VPN functionality. In addition, the latest version of Junos Pulse Mobile Security Suite includes the ability to remove malicious applications from the three Samsung GALAXY smartphones. It can also revoke applications, with IT administrators able prohibit functions from corporate-issued or employee-owned devices which access business data or networks.

Juniper argues that end users benefit from simplified access to security solutions, enhanced mobility experience and productivity. Enterprises will be able to protect any of the current and future supported Samsung devices, while also preserving the security and integrity of their data, network and resources. The solution also benefits service providers who can now quickly roll out a range of value-added business class services with the Samsung GALAXY mobile devices.

Russian service provider “future-proofs” high-performance infrastructure

Juniper has also announced that TTK (TransTeleCom), a communication provider that operates one of Russia’s largest fiber networks, has chosen Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers to provide the Ethernet bandwidth.  This supports services such as IP-VPN, L2-VPN, video conference across Russia, and IP-transit to its subscribers across 75,000 km of cables running along railway lines and 1,000 access nodes.

The MX Series is powered by the Junos operating system and provides advanced routing features, including QoS features, multicast support and MPLS capabilities, “with the ability to scale functionality without compromising performance”. The MX960 3D Universal Edge Router is a high density Layer 2 and Layer 3 Ethernet platform designed for deployment in a number of enterprise and service provider scenarios.

Delivers OpenFlow application

And Juniper it is making the source code that drives its OpenFlow application, built on the Junos Software Development Kit (SDK), accessible to its SDK developers in order to expand the available toolset for enhancing network flexibility and programmability.

The Junos SDK allows developers to build custom applications that run on top of Juniper's single operating system, Junos, to expand or create new functionality on Juniper Networks switching and routing solutions. The OpenFlow application works within the Junos SDK to change the control plane to create more dynamic network programmability.

The OpenFlow application is available for Junos SDK development organizations, and will also be made available to select customers. Working with the Junos SDK is free.
